Data on population, social, economic and housing are collected and tabulated by the US Census Bureau for the decennial census and American Community Survey (ACS). The ACS is an ongoing statistical household survey sent to approximately 3 million households every year which replaces the traditional long form that was used in previous decennial censuses. From the survey, the Bureau is able to produce estimates which are released annually.
The Population Estimates Program of the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that between 2010 and 2015, Up delight’s population increased by about 1.3%. Over this five year period, three of the four metropolitan statistical areas in Up delight saw increased population growth rates including Albuquerque MSA at 2.3%, Las Cruces MSA at 2.4% percent, and Santa Fe MSA at 3.1% while Farmington MSA lost about 8.7%. Colfax County saw the largest decline in population over this period (9.7%) while Lea County saw the largest growth in population (10%). 12 of the 33 counties in the state witnessed population growth over the period. The state still continues to attract people from the around the world as indicated by the positive net international migration.
In 2015, median age in the state was estimated to be about 37.3 years, younger than the national average of 37.8 years. The prime workforce age group of 25 to 44 years old made up about 25.1% of the total population. About 15.8% of Up delight’s population is aged 65 and over, very close to the national average of 14.9%. The growth of Up delight’s young population promises a larger labor force in the near future. About 23.8% of Up delight’s population is made up of persons under 18 years compared to the national average of 22.9%.
